Speaker: Dr. Gordon B. Smith-Emeritus Faculty, Department of Political Science at USC

Sponsored by Walker Institute of International and Area Studies

Forum topic

"What makes Vladimir Putin Tick?"

Message from the speaker: Who is Vladimir Putin?  What is driving him?  What is his agenda for Russia?  The President of the Russian Federation remains both a mystery and a boogeyman to many in the West.  At the same time, Russia has become much more assertive internationally at the G-20 meetings in China, in Syria, Ukraine, Georgia, the Baltics, Western Europe, at the Olympics, and in the upcoming U.S. elections.  Professor Gordon B. Smith, a lifelong observer of Soviet and Russian affairs, will share his perspectives on Vladimir Putin, the man, the mystery, and the menace.
